Gulf Organization for Industrial
Consulting
The
Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) was founded
in 1976 by a decision of the Ministers of Industry in the Arab
Gulf states, for the purpose of achieving industrial cooperation
and coordination among member states. It includes in its
membership: the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia,
Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. The Republic of Yemen joined later in
2009.
GOIC works as a knowledge-based consulting hub for the
development of industry in the region. This is achieved through
the provision of data, information and specialized researches,
consulting and technical services to the public and private
sectors, and through the identification and introduction of new
industries in the region. It has been considered as a pioneering
house for industrial consultancies, and industrial integration and
industrial coordination among member states.
Its presence has been an essential link ensuring the momentum of
industrial development in the region. GOIC has pivotal
contributions in the formation of the industrial policy in the
region, particularly with regard to the unified industrial
strategy which has been adopted by all GCC states.
GOIC’s technical activities include many diversified and
specialized programs, such as: industrial and economic studies,
the Manufacturing Investment Opportunities Program (MIOP),
Economic and Industrial Information (EII), Industrial
Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange (SPX) Program,
Industrial Technical Assistance (ITA) Program for Small and
Medium Size Industries, Industrial Market Information (IMI), the
Training and Capacity Development (TCD) program, and others.
GOIC has various databases, namely among others: the Foreign
Trade Database, the Petrochemicals database, the Cement
database, and the Plastic Industries database. It has become an
essential source of market information in the region, and a
thrilling tributary to scientific and economic research, in
addition to promoting knowledge networking with experts,
researchers, and economists interested in industrial development
in the region.
Within the framework of its alliances and cooperation
agreements, GOIC has been linked to a local, regional and global
group of organizations and institutions from both the public and
private sectors, in order to diversify knowledge and
exchange experience, and to achieve the necessary coordination.
Strategic alliances were made with prominent global and regional
organizations in various disciplines, in favor of industrial
development in the region. A range of partnerships and
cooperation contracts with leading research centers and houses
of long experience in various industrial fields have been
developed.
Since its inception, GOIC has held several coordination meetings
among similar industries, as well as specialized meetings and
seminars, in addition to twelve conferences of Gulf
Industrialists with the participation of their Excellencies the
Ministers of Industry. It actively participated in the
specialized exhibitions concurrently held with conferences and
seminars, where latest industrial innovations, technologies and
services were displayed. Training courses and workshops were
organized to provide specialized knowledge to national youth.
GOIC also played an active role as an industrial publishing
house, where industrial technical terms have been arabized and
published in its different publications, which exceeded, for
more than three decades, more than 500 publications of
periodicals, newsletters, bulletins, books, directories,
reports, brochures, and CDs. Industrial series were
issued including: series of features of the industrial economy
in the Arab Gulf States, basic industries in the Arab Gulf
States, industrial directories, Gulf statistical Profile, and
others.
