BACKGROUND

The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting was conceptualized as a knowledge-hub and industrial investment promotion catalyst, for the purpose of industrial diversification and development within the GCC countries. It targets developing industries throughout the region by means of providing the public and the private industrial sector with distinctive knowledge.

The Industrial Development efforts of the GCC region are focusing on strengthening and expanding the manufacturing capabilities and capacities of the region’s industry. In this line GOIC, in its role to facilitate and to enhance the individual and organizational capacities for industrial development, is organizing this three day workshop on ‘Identification & Selection of New Industrial projects’.

GOIC is carrying out this program in cooperation with the Public Authority for Industry in Kuwait under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ali Fahad AL Mudhaf, General Manager of the Public Authority for Industry - State of Kuwait.

OBJECTIVE

The upcoming workshop aims to develop the capacity of individual entrepreneurs, investment companies and business houses to identify and select potential industrial manufacturing opportunities.

Hence, the workshop is to equip the participants:


• To have an awareness of the project life cycle;
• To carry out a self analysis / appraisal to identify personal or organizational objectives;
• To identify viable investment opportunities;
• To screen these opportunities based on various techniques;
• To carry out a project appraisal based on proven techniques;
• To select a project based on feasibility analysis only.

EXPECTED OUTCOME

After the completed Workshop, participants will have gained:


• Self analysis;
• Defining long term objectives;
• Identifying and screening potential industrial investment opportunities;
• Project appraisal and preliminary project studies;
• Project selection;
• Overview of project management.

WORKSHOP OUTLINE

The outline for the workshop will be centered around six key sessions, covered over the course of three days. The instruction language will be English, Arabic support will be provided. The sessions are:

TRAINING MATERIALS

Each participant will be provided a CD containing all the presentations delivered throughout the workshop. Also an assignment would be given for the trainees to identify manufacturing industrial projects. Each participant will be allowed to select a specific sector to work with to identify opportunities.

TRAINERS
The training will be conducted by a team of two highly skilled and experienced Project Management consultants. GOIC staff will support and assist the trainers with the planning delivery and follow up of the workshop.

Engineer Nelson P. Mathew

Mr. Mathew is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) of the Project Management Institute, USA, and received a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from USA, a Masters Degree in Financial Management (MFM), Post Graduate Diploma in Administrative Management (DAM) as well as a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from India, He was certified as a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), the highest recognition awarded by the Toastmasters International of the USA.

Mr. Mathew is working now as Chief Executive of Al Baraka Consultancy in the State of Qatar, and was previously an Engineering Consultant and Head of the Industrial Investment Unit of the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC). Prior to joining GOIC, he was the Chief Executive of Al Baraka Consultancy in Oman for 10 years, as well as having been Manager- Finance & Projects for a prominent business group in Oman for 4 years, and Project Engineer with Tata Consulting Engineers, India for 5 years. He was also a visiting faculty member of an accredited MBA program.

Mr. Mathew has managed more than ten major industrial projects from concept to commissioning as project manager, headed more than 150 consultancy studies and written a number of papers on industrial development and project management matters. He has conducted many workshops on subjects such as project management, project negotiations and communication and leadership, and participated and presented papers in number of international conferences and seminars.

He is currently a member of the Project Management Institute of the USA, and a fellow of Institute of Commercial Management, UK.

Engineer Shaju Jose

Mr. Jose is a B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from India and MBA in e-Business from USA. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Al Baraka Consultancy, Qatar. He was certified as a Competent Toastmaster (CTM) and Competent Leader (CL), recognitions awarded by the Toastmasters International of the USA.
Mr. Shaju has worked in various executive management capacities in various GCC countries and has about 18 years experience in logistics, business management and project management.

Training is his passion. He has conducted many workshops on subjects such as communication, management and leadership. He is also one of the Directors of a program named skills4excellence.com which imparts training to students and adults in programs like time management, goal setting, mind mapping etc.
Mr. Shaju has managed many contracts for supply, installation and service of plants in the oil and gas sector. He has carried also out various techno-economic studies for industrial projects.

He is currently a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Toastmasters International of USA.
