BACKGROUND
The Industrial Development efforts of the GCC region are focusing on strengthening and expanding the manufacturing capabilities and capacities of the region’s industry. In this line The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), in its role to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and to enhance the individual and organizational capacities for industrial development in the GCC member States, is joining efforts with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Oman to organize a series of four seminars an Subcontracting & Partnership exchange (SPX).
SPX is a GOIC program in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). SPX aims to work as a match-making mechanism for the activation of industrial relations and creation of business contacts between main contractors and sub-contractors - usually Small and Medium sized Industries (SMIs).
Currently, SPX focuses on the areas of petrochemicals, water desalination, metal works, plastics and rubber, electrical and electronics, and industrial services. SPX carefully chooses sub-contractors who manufacture components and parts of these industrial areas in order to offer their capacity and know-how to the main contractors and buyers.
The Program operates as a technical information centre for business contacts, promotion of inquiries and business opportunities. This matchmaking mechanism is supported by an SPX database and a technical team providing information and training on SPX activities.
OBJECTIVE
The upcoming seminars aim to bring the concept of SPX to the Industrial Areas in Oman in order to increase the awareness of the stakeholders about the benefits of Subcontracting & Partnership Exchange (SPX) activities in general and GOIC’s SPX program in particular.
Hence, the seminars have the following three objectives:
1. Defining the concept of Subcontracting & Partnership Exchange.
2. Presenting and promoting the services offered by the SPX program.
3. Exploring other countries experience with the SPX program
