GOIC organizes seminar on Industrial Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange
United Arab Emirates: Monday, October 08 -2007

Under the patronage of his highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Mohammed Assharqi, heir apparent of Al- Fujairah, the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) is organizing a seminar on Industrial Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange (SPX), in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and Industry in the United Arab Emirates, and Al Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The seminar will be held on Sunday, October 28th, 2007.

The seminar targets introducing the concept of partnership subcontracting and partnership exchange; its role in fostering industrial growth in Al Fujairah; and exploring global experiences in the field of implementing this concept in industrially developed and developing countries. In addition, the seminar aims at introducing the services which GOIC provides through its own Industrial Sub-Contracting and Partnership Exchange Program (GOIC-SPX) which was established in cooperation with the UNIDO in 2004.

According to Engineer Ismail el-Shafei, Head of Industrial Promotion Unit in GOIC, the seminar comes within the framework of GOIC's efforts to foster industrial development in the region, by means of utilizing the available production capacities of industrial companies in the GCC member states, alongside improving its efficiency and competitiveness in view of the new global economy system, as well as satisfying the international standards in their products.

On the other hand, Eng. el-Shafie also assured GOIC's intention to launch a Gulf interactive electronic portal for Industrial Sub-Contracting and Partnership Exchange (SPX) to make data available through the web within the last quarter of this year. This facility will allow for electronic registration, e-posting of contractors' requests, and showing capacities and capabilities to importers.

It is worth mentioning that GOIC-SPX program is considered the fruit of its cooperation with the UNIDO. The program includes a database on subcontracting for around 400 GCC companies mostly representing metal, plastic, electric, and electronic industries. The program recorded considerable support from both the public and private sectors; something which lead GOIC to innovate a training program for the officers of Industrial SPX in some of GCC member states.
