SPX is a GOIC
program in cooperation with the United
Nations Industrial Development Organization
(UNIDO). SPX aims to work as a match-making
mechanism for the activation of industrial
relations and creation of business contacts
between main contractors and sub-contractors
- usually Small and Medium sized Industries
(SMIs).
The Program operates as a technical information
centre for business contacts, promotion
of inquiries and opportunities. It consists
of a database, a technical team and information
system. It is a matching mechanism between
main contractors and subcontractors.
Currently, SPX focuses on the areas of
petrochemicals, water desalination, metal
works, plastics and rubber, electrical
and electronics, and industrial services.
SPX carefully chooses sub-contractors who
manufacture components and parts of these
industrial areas in order to offer their
capacity and know-how to the main contractors
and buyers.
Industrial
subcontracting is a link between subcontractors
( usually Small and medium industries )
and main contractors for outsourcing of
parts, components, sub-assemblies, industrial
processes or services according to pre-established
directions (designs, drawings, specifications
etc.)
Partnership
is an extension to a matchmaking linkage
between main contractors and subcontractors
in which special provisions made by the main
contractors to the subcontractors include
supply of special raw materials, specialized
equipment, moulds, technical assistance,
training, know-how, license agreements and
in some cases equity participation or joint
investments.
Like
other SPX's elsewhere in the world, GOIC-SPX
will focus on five sectors for Subcontracting.
Theses are Metalworking, Plastics, Rubber,
Electrical & Electronics and Industrial Services.
In addition Petrochemicals & Desalination
sectors in GCC will receive priority.
DATABASE: A
database will be established after a comprehensive
survey of small and medium scale subcontractors
and main contractors. Their activities will
be coded according to international standards.
This will include sector of activity, products,
subcontracting operations and machines, production
capacities and references.
MATCHMAKING: When an inquiry
is received from a main contractor or buyer,
the database gets cross checked to select
companies whose products and or activities
match the inquiry. Consequently both parties
are contacted and through this process
matchmaking between subcontractors and
main contractors can be achieved.
PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES: The
promotion of the activities of SPX and its
members is delivered through mailings, press
releases, advertisements, personal visits
and participation in fairs/exhibitions.
