The objective
of the program is to study the industrial
sector in the GCC and its development
needs. It seeks to identify investment
opportunities and to promote the most
promising projects among them on the
regional and national level through investment
seminars, workshops and other specialized
public events.
The MIOP public events are held across
the GCC Region, propagating awareness
and cognizance on the industrial sector.
Since inception, the Program has identified
and promoted more than 350 projects
and potential investment opportunity
within the GCC region.
Major industrial projects cover sectors
such as, agro-industries and food technology,
textile and leather, paper and packaging,
nonmetallic minerals, chemicals, medical
and pharmaceuticals, plastics and rubber,
engineering, metals, etc.
GOIC selects the projects
based on the needs of the industrial
sector in various countries in the GCC.
The projects selection benchmark is
usually determined by one or more of
the following factors:
First of its kind in the member country;
Availability of local resources;
Import substitution or export oriented;
High value addition;
Comparative advantage for national
or regional development.
The purpose of the program is to identify
project ideas and promote them to the
public so that the potential investors
can do the project independently. It
is noteworthy to mention that most of
the projects presented in MIOP public
events have been taken up, developed
and brought to fruition by the private
sector.
Experts working in this
program first identify a particular investment
opportunity. In-depth analysis is performed
on the techno-economic as well as the
socio-economic factors essential to its
implementation and undertaking. International
technology providers are contacted to
determine the echelon and availability
of technology required for the project,
along with its costs and benefits.
Upon its completion, a pre-feasibility
study, from concept to implementation,
is presented to wide audience of investors,
financiers, as well as industrialists
from both the public and private sectors.
Specialists and key speakers representing
technology providers or other industrialists,
will introduce and communicate directly,
detailed technical aspects of the projects,
and their respective experience and know-how,
in respect to the particular projects
presented.
The pre-feasibility study will showcase
in details, main characteristics underlying
the projects, such as:
Product description and project concept;
Technology and technical appraisal;
Regional market overview;
Cost estimation and financial analysis;
Sensitivity analysis.
