GOIC Conducts
a Workshop on Industrial Clusters

The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting
(GOIC) in cooperation with The Ministry of
Commerce & Industry in the Sultanate of
Oman conduct on August 26 th, 2007, a workshop,
the first of its kind, on developing industrial
clusters in the GCC. The three-day workshop
will be held in Salalah, and it targets developing
industrial clusters by means of benefiting
from the experiences of the developed countries.
The workshop will also discuss the challenges
and opportunities relating to developing those
clusters in the region with the participation
of specialized experts in the field of developing
industrial clusters in the developing countries.
This workshop is one result of the awareness
of industry stakeholders in the Sultanate of
Oman of the importance of the private sector
and its role in increasing the Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) of the Sultanate. And it also
comes within the program of reinforcing the
cooperation and coordination amongst the working
clusters. The program targets decision and
policies makers at executive level in the industrial
institutions.
It is worth mentioning that the number of
factories in GCC reached some 10431 in 2006,
investing around US D 118.3 billions , and
816 000 workmen. The number of factories in
the Petrochemicals sector alone is 2043 factory,
investing around US D 70 billions, with 136000
workmen. In its turn, the Sultanate of Oman
has 1019 factories, with an investment estimated
to some US D 3.2 millions, and 44300 workmen.
