The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) holds a training on statistical analysis using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software at the Organization’s headquarters in Doha, Qatar, from the 7th till the 11th of June, 2015. The aim of this training is to introduce SPSS and train participants on using this software and benefiting from its features to develop various businesses by analysing data packages and generating statistical outputs and indicators. In fact, SPSS has become an indispensable tool to analyse various types of data of all sizes. It guarantees an accurate and fast analysis.

This workshop targets professionals working in industrial and economic statistics, statistical authorities, statistical customs departments, financial companies and institutions, investment and contracting companies, in addition to individuals working in data processing and analysis, banks, survey centres and research and development centres.

The training includes several themes, notably SPSS basics, introducing the software, how to identify and classify variables, generating information files, data types and how to input data and process them statistically, saving data and output files, opening files generated by different software, information coding, preparing the code list, describing and naming variables, correcting and printing information, common mistakes, choosing lines, creating sub-files and organising lines and variables. Furthermore, participants will get to know how to modify generated data, transform variables, create new variables based on original variables through arithmetic operations, create new variables based on original variables by coding and test validity and reliability.
Moreover, the workshop explains primary analysis of data, troubleshooting via descriptive analysis, detailed statistical descriptive analysis, repeated measures data table, central tendency and dispersion, graphs representing data and how to benefit from them, cross tabulation for two variables or more, linear regression and correlation coefficients and T-tests.

The training is delivered by Dr. Adel Al-Tayeb from Qatar University. Dr. Al-Tayeb has a PhD. from Ohio University in the United States of America (1997). For several years, he was a professor at various American universities before joining Qatar University. He is a SPSS trainer and a statistical consultant since 1992.
