Preparations to host the 15th Industrialists’ Conference: “Foreign Direct Investments and their Impact on Gulf Industries”

A conference held in Kuwait on the 25th and 26th of November 2015 The Public Authority for Industry (PAI) in the State of Kuwait and the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) have started to prepare for the 15th Gulf Industrialists’ Conference: Foreign Direct Investments and their Impact on Gulf Industries that will be held in Kuwait on the 25th and 26th of November 2015. The conference’s main committee convened its first preparatory meeting at the headquarters of the PAI in the presence of representatives of organising entities: the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Kuwait, the Public Authority for Industry, the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting, Kuwait Industries Union, the Industrial Bank of Kuwait, the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority, Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Secretariat-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Federation of GCC Chambers. Participants discussed organisational, technical, logistic and media affairs related to the preparations for the conference. They have agreed on a number of recommendations to be implemented by subcommittees. Furthermore, participants discussed preparatory arrangements for the conference and tasks and responsibilities of each of the organising entities. They have also reviewed the schedule in details, particularly regarding the content of adopted sessions. In addition, they discussed the role of GOIC in supporting the sponsorship campaign that is supposed to be launched before the 1st of June and its efforts to attract necessary sponsorship of the conference. The 15th Industrialists’ Conference is held with the participation of GCC ministers of industry. It aims at shedding light on the role of foreign investors in the industrial sector and their contributions in GCC national economies. The conference will also discuss the development and impact of foreign investments in the industrial sector. It is expected that the conference will result in recommendations to improve the investment environment and overcome obstacles that foreign investments are facing. This outcome is in line with strategic plans of GCC countries, serves its development objectives and maximises the benefit from investments. The conference will bring together a group of elite experts and specialised professionals who will shed light on the status of foreign direct investments in GCC countries and how to attract further investments in light of international success stories in this field. Industrialists’ Conference Background Information The Gulf Industrialists’ Conference organised by GOIC and hosted in rotation between member states every other year is one of the Organization’s most important achievements since its foundation in 1976. Since the first conference held in Doha in 1985, these conferences have been contributing to the development of GCC industrial path at the level of public and private sectors. Decision makers and officials and many businessmen and industrialists are interested in this conference. Every conference tackles a specific topic affecting industrial development in the region. The recommendations of previous conferences have contributed to the development of GCC industrial plans, particularly plans related to the Gulf industrial development strategy. Its 14th version was held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tareq Al Said, representative of His Majesty the Sultan in the Sultanate of Oman on the 30th and 31st of March 2014. The conference was entitled: “Industrial Exports: Opportunities and Challenges”. Participants’ recommendations were to “adopt fast and effective policies and measures allowing the free flow of Gulf exports in order to boost intra-regional trade between GCC countries and Yemen” and to “Use GCC and Yemen seaports as additional points of entry along with land border crossings to promote industrial exports.”
