Under the Patronage of H.E Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Energy & Industry, and the presence of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-sada, Minister of state for Energy & Industry Affairs, Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), and Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation (BCCIN), in partnership with Qatar Petroleum (QP) are organizing the First GCC-EU Industrial Forum on 3-4 July 2008 in Casa Llotja de Mar – Barcelona, Spain.

Background:

The Industrial Development efforts of the GCC region are focusing on strengthening and expanding the manufacturing capabilities and capacities of the region’s industry. In this line, private companies in general, small and medium scale industries in particular are consistently encouraged to market their products and capabilities. Special efforts are also directed towards increasing cooperation and partnership between the GCC manufacturing business and their counterparts worldwide.

During the 2nd meeting of MEDA Industrial Forum in Barcelona, experts from GOIC, representatives of the ASCAME and representatives from BCCIN, met and discussed the mutual benefits of cooperation for industrial and economic development.

The Chambers of Commerce and their member companies are looking into partnership and cooperation possibilities from within the GCC region. Special interest is centered on technology transfer and joint ventures.
GOIC and BCCIN have agreed to arrange for establishing a GCC-EU Industrial Forum that facilitates the realization of mutual objectives and goals.

Forum Objectives

The main objective of the GCC-EU Forum is to promote industrial cooperation in general and subcontracting & partnership activities between the two regions in particular. The Forum will specifically focus on meeting the objective of marketing GCC subcontracting capabilities and promoting technology transfer and joint venture interests from the EU region.

Specific inquiries from both business communities would be collected and matchmaking meetings would take place during the Forum. Discussions and presentations would lay the ground work for private companies and industrial concerns interaction and cooperation.

Structure of the Forum

The Forum is planned to be attended by high level delegations from both the GCC region and their counter parts from the EU countries.
The Forum will be held once every year interchangeably between GCC and the EU under patronage of VIPs from each region. The activities of the Forum would last for two days at a time.

The Forum will have the following attributes:

  • Presentation, discussion and sessions of business meetings;
  • The private sector would be the main player presenting project interest, subcontracting capabilities and major companies demand for manufacturing supplies.
  • Major companies, i.e., main contractors, would be sharing inquires, including specifications, values, quantities and project interests.
  • GOIC & BCCIN would gather their efforts to arrange for matchmaking between private companies in the area of investment, industrial supplies and partnerships.
