GCC-EU Lobbying
(Business
and Industry)
POSTPONED
Brussels- Belgium
INTRODUCTION
Since Europe and the GCC countries in the Gulf
region have developed many political and
economical ties during the last decade. The GCC
is the EU's sixth largest export market and the
EU is the GCC's most important leading trading
partner; whereas EU exports to the GCC are
diversified, consisting primarily (56% in 2006)
of machinery and transport materials, and EU
imports from the GCC consist mostly of fuels and
derivatives. GCC countries currently benefit
from preferential access to the EU market under
the EU's Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).
Further to the free trade agreement, cooperation
between the EU and the GCC should be promoted,
particularly in areas such as sustainable
development, climate change and energy
efficiency, including provisions on renewable
energy. Both the Gulf region and the EU are
major political and economical actors on the
international scene.
The promotion of collaboration and partnership
pass through a better understanding of each
other, and the development of contacts and
networks. It is the purpose of the present
activity (workshop) to provide to the
participants with both knowledge and network, in
order to promote the relations between the two
regions (GCC and EU).
THE OBJECTIVES OF
THIS WORKSHOP ARE THREE-FOLD:
1) Provide knowledge about the European
institutions, their present relations with
the Gulf region and industries, and the future
challenges;
2) Expose the current strategies and techniques
of lobbying and the lobbying potential for Gulf
region companies and associations;
3) Organize events aiming at favouring the
future development of collaboration between the
participants, officials of the EU institutions,
and European industrials;
