Forum on
Measures to Reduce Operation
Costs and Increase Productivity For Small
and Medium Industries (SMIs)

Forum is organized by GOIC’s
Industrial Technical Assistance (ITA)
Program in cooperation with the Ministry of
Industry and Commerce in the Kingdom of
Bahrain and reputable international experts.
Attendance is free of charge.
BACKGROUND
GOIC has recognized the importance of
supporting small and medium industries’ in
facing the challenges of being competitive
on the global market with minimal impact on
the environment, and therefore, initiated
the Industrial Technical Assistance Program
(shortly ITA).
ITA was established already
in 2001 and has provided small and
medium-sized industries with comprehensive
industrial assessments at low cost. The
outcomes of the most recent assessment
conducted in Qatar in 2008 have shown a
potential reduction of SME’s operating costs
between QR 1.000.000 – 22.000.000 through:
- Reducing energy consumption
(7-20%)
- Reducing water consumption
(80-83 %)
- Minimizing waste (4-80%)
- Productivity improvement
(10-60%)

OBJECTIVE & EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The objective of the Forum is to
provide all the stakeholders involved in the
sustainable development of small and medium
sized industries in Bahrain with:
- Insights to the benefits of
saving resources (energy,
water), waste reduction,
productivity increase and its
effect on industrial development
and positive impact on local and
global environment.
- An overview of resource
management, energy conservation,
waste reduction, pollution
control, environmental impacts.
- New international trends and
related policy issues.

TARGETED
PARTICIPANTS
The
Forum will be delivered to an audience
of about 80 individuals representing the
following groups of stakeholders:
- SME owners and employees;
- Industrial managers;
- Regional and local government
decision-makers;
- Industrial banks and financial
institutions;
- Industrial consultants.

DOCUMENTATION
The
Forum documentation will include a
hard copy of the presentations, the results
of previous ITA projects on industrial
assessment of SMIs as well as background
information about the ITA
program and other
GOIC services.
